Kevin S., your answer to Don McK's question of "beanie" helmet safety is
spot-on. I work at a Level I Trauma Center in Fresno and have seen what's left
of them along with what's left of the patient's skull after skidding down the
asphalt 75 to 100 feet on his head! And, since they don't encase the skull like
our autocross helmets do, they tend to pop off more easily in certain types of
crashes.
To Mike A. Your brain can scramble itself very nicely, with or without a helmet
on. The tissues and fluids contained within the immovable container called the
skull move at different speeds during impact causing shearing, tearing and
compression injuries. Talk about getting your bell rung!! I'll take my Snell
