Subject: | Is there such a thing as too much tire? |

I have been idly pondering/lusting after an updated Lotus7 mutant.. My mindset is from my long experience with heavy cars, for which I always wanted more tire. I understand that these Lotus-inspired cars are between 1000 and 1500 lbs, not 3500, but their 6 or 7 inch-wide wheels seem unnecessarily frugal/spindly to me. What tradeoff/bad effect would there be in running a 1200 lb car with 8x17 and 10x17 wheels and 245/275-40-17 tires? Is tire-width not subject to the same 'Dolly Parton racing rule' about power; that too much is just enough? Joe |
