It's not all about max torque, it's about where you can get it.  M3 has a
relatively flat torque band.  Just wait 'till the new one comes out, 80% of
it's 265 lb/ft is available at 2000 RPM.  Put that down through a variable
limited slip (up to 100%) and 18X9 inch wheels with plenty of room for big
tires, and you got a killer autox car.
