By creating awareness.

Who remembers many years ago when Houston Region was put on probation for 1)
too fast course [a 900-foot straight was cited] and 2) bump-drafting on
parade laps [i.e. broken taillights].

The awareness created by that incident caused me to go out and measure the
longest straight on my Mirror Khana course. Aha, 900 feet! Did I need to
change? I sought the guidance of the then-head of the SEB, who had run the
event before.

The answer, it was okay because it began with a very slow entry turn (thus
reducing terminal speed) and it went away from the staging/grid area. OTOH,
we took steps to slow down a 650-foot straight because it was aimed TOWARD
the same staging/grid area.

Already, just through this medium, dozens -- perhaps hundreds -- of
autocrossers are aware of the infraction and the resolution and know it
could happen to them.
