I think that what you really want is a pavement specialist. An
individual that can interpret the type of load being placed upon the
asphalt and gauge it's effect upon the composition of the asphalt
mixture. I believe that the composition of the aggregate mixture is the
primary determinate as to the type of wear the asphalt will exhibit.
Just based upon my local experience of the past twenty years, the threat
to asphalt lots while auto-xing is negligible except for those parking
lots that have heavy usage during the week. These lots have heavy
concentration of oil-soaked asphalt 4' on either side of the centerline
dividing the head to head parking spots. These area must be avoided for
heavy braking, acceleration, or turning during an auto-x because the
oil-soaked surface is much softer than the surrounding asphalt and will
deform and/or lift during an event.
Since your signature indicates that you're in the Great White North, I'm
surprised that auto-xing would even be a factor in determining when to
re-surface an asphalt lot. I would expect more structural damage to
result from the temperature extremes the asphalt experiences in the
seasonal temperature swings as well as the pothole damage done by water
seepage.
