Thanks for all the help today.
Turned out when she'd had it replace a year ago (on the road -- at a
truck stop) they put in a 24-month battery.
I just replaced it with a new and better one, and the car is charging in
the 14.1 volt range, which isn't unreasonable given that a new battery
probably wants a charge. When I can get the car home from the
convienience store at which it's stranded we'll stick it on ye olde'
charger and pump in some more electrons. Hopefully that'll make it all
happy.
(wonder how many husband points this is worth. Hope hope)
