What Carol said. Back in 1981 my father smoked a cigarette just before
midnight on New Years Eve, put it out at midnight and made a New Years
resolution to not smoke another one that year.
About 3 months later his nose started working again, and I started
getting long distance phone calls from him appologizing for making us put
up with his cigarette smoke all those years while I was growing up. :-) He
hasn't had one since.
And, by the way, it isn't easy; I read research 25 years ago that
people
who had been (or were!) addicted to heroin and smoked reported that it was
easier to quit heroin.
Hang in there!
As far as the ticket, yeah, I noticed that KC seemed to have an
assembly
line set up to write tickets (west bound lanes of I-70 the Thursday
afternoon of nationals), with 3 pulled over, one in the process and another
sitting on a ramp looking for something.
Back in June I was driving home after a long event and ran into a
traffic jam on the beltway. I got off and took city streets in Arlington,
VA. At one point I realized I had an SUV tailgating me, and looked up to
see the light coming up had cycled to yellow. As I still had the Kumhos on
the car, I have no doubt I could stop, but I had my doubts about the SUV,
so I kept going. The light probably changed to red as I got under it, and
if the photo ticketing for that intersection had been working I'm pretty
sure they would have sent me one by now. But I looked in my rear view
mirror and noted that the SUV had stopped... partway into the intersection.
Sometimes it is safer to break the law in small ways than to be
scrupulously adherent.
