After watching World Rally Championship coverage on Speedvision a week
ago, I believe Solo II (autocross) could very well be a hit on TV. It's
simply a matter of getting interesting camera angles, and hooking up with
the hottest competition between drivers. Forget covering the whole event
(BORING). Focus on in-car cameras looking at the hands, feet, shifting
with an inset view out the windshield. Edit in the great spins and slides
and the human side of the competition.
There could be great coverage of the technical side, also. A 30 minute
show for an event (including ads) max.
The whole thing is doable with enough money thrown at it (read
sponsorship, here).
IMO it would be neat for SCCA to contract Matt Murray, Roger Johnson, Bob
Tunnell and Rich Fletcher to put on a pilot program and see if we could
attract a sponsor.
