I have to agree with Tom here. You guys with the problems about the mental
issues could have had the same performance trouble, if in fact you did, if the
weather had severely altered things from one run to the next. It's part of the
sport, deal with it. This incident, folks in case you didn't notice, is a world
wide problem, and yes it does affect you immediatly and forever. Get over the
issue of how your runs *may* have been affected. I find your arguments trivial
and inconsequential. I understand the perceived importance in your minds about
competing at the nationals, but damn, its only for a bloody trophy. In the
grand scheme of things, nobody really cares excpet our little end of the world.
My take is this: If you can't focus on your run for the two minutes or so from
the time you launch to the time you finish, then I suggest you hone your mental
skills for competiton a little better. You have plenty of time to digest the
gravity of this situation after your run.
I wasn't at the nationals, but reading this thread, I believe your announcer
did the responsible thing. It's done, it's over. Deal with it and try harder
next year, if we are around then.
