I believe I have ticked a few people off about weighing their stock, street
touring, or street prepared cars.
I am sincerely sorry if I have done this.
If I was impound chief at the event, yes, I was tired of working all day and
having to be available for all work assignments.
Yes, I know it doesn't take long to weigh your car, but after you leave and
go about your business, several people who saw your car on the scales drove
over to get their car weighed while the scales were "open" because it
doesn't take long to weigh their car either. Your "it won't take long" may
have ended up using any time that I may have had between heats before the
next group came to impound. If I did it for you, shouldn't I do it for
others, too?
Yes, I know it's not difficult to run the scales, but if I'm responsible for
the condition of the scales and I've been instructed not to let anyone use
the scales without supervision (you know, me watching), I don't think it
would be right for me to leave you alone with the scales if I personally
don't know if you really know how to use or take care of the scales. And
saying "Oh, I know how to use 'em" doesn't convince me. If you really know
how, I'm sorry if I don't know you know.
Yes, I know you really wanted to weigh your stock, street prepared, or
street touring car at Nationals, but with the screwed up schedule caused by
terrorists killing people in New York (yes, it ruined my week, too) and not
enough impound workers and running like 9 heats Friday, etc., no, I'm sorry,
it was not convenient to weigh your car.
If I am asked to be impound chief again at some of the tours, most people
(not all <g>) would be welcome to come when you are not running or working
the event and help me weigh the cars of the curious. If you need to get
ready to make your runs or pack up because you have a long drive home or you
have to go to the porta-potty or whatever, that's OK, I'll understand. I'm
an out-of-town competitor, too.
