Thanks to all who posted their opinions on the trophy count. The
majority of you seem to like the structure as it is now since it rewards
above average performance in a way that does not come across as
condenscending. Everyone I know, including myself, is very proud of
*any* trophy they have collected at Nationals. This says a lot about
the prestige that a Nationals trophy offers, regardless of how many are
paid out. This is good.

My own personal suggestion for the banquet, which is how we recognize
each other's accomplishments, is to:

a) Award a small but tastefull participation plaque to *all*
compititors who complete two days of competition at Nationals. This is
a valued momento that can displayed with pride for attending no matter
what the results are.
b) Read off the names of the final place trophy winner through the
fourth place trophy winner in that class, and let them be recognized as
a group. They can collect their trophies at the banquet, or they can be
mailed.
c) Present trophies to the top three finishers in the normal fashion.

Would this make the process more tolerable without losing anything?
Again, just thinkin'.

Pat
