I (and others, no doubt) applaud your efforts to be fair. But even after
going to great lengths, and (as you say) seriously hacking some regional
folks off, it STILL wasn't fair. If any of the eight people you mention
were competitors, it wasn't fair to everyone else.
Obviously, there's no way to keep the thing a complete secret, unless you
ban everyone involved from competing.
So the obvious answer (to me) is to put the things on the web, as soon as
they are available. The arguments about Internet haves/have nots are
specious. First off, Autocrossers fall pretty smack dab in the middle of
the *have* demographic. Secondly, anyone who really feels that they are
at a disadvantage if they don't see the map in advance will find a way to
see it. It's absurd to think that someone who can spend thousands on car
prep and tires and travel hundreds of miles to compete can't find a way to
get access to the Internet for 10 minutes.
