As the others have mentioned, the AM protest was on the SAE car of Dr.
Bob Woods and Les Freeman. The protest mentioned the restrictor tube
the car has to run and from my understanding the weight and wheelbase
of the car. The protest was vague on the last 2 items because the
SCCA rule book does not fully cover the SAE cars in regards to weight
and wheelbase, it has a min. wheelbase listed but no weight. They
proved the restrictor size and showed in the SAE rules that they were
legal in the other areas, thus winning the protest. What most people
do not know is that Dr. Bob Woods is one of the originators of the SAE
program over 12 years ago. He also created/wrote or helped to
create/write the rules that the SAE competition uses to this day.
On one final note, because of a cone that was misplaced on one of John
Engstoms runs, which he had added to his run, Dr. Bob Woods ended up
2nd with Danielle 3rd, and John 4th.
The SAE car they ran is one of the older ones they have and is slower
then the newest ones they have. On occasion we will have 3 to 6 of
their cars at an event. They run out of drivers before they run out
of cars.
