The market will keep this issue from getting out of hand. If you don't like
a particular brand, don't buy it. Tell your friends not to buy it. That
message will get heard. As has been pointed out numerous times over the
years, there is no way to write a meaningful rule to handle what you're
asking. You can't even do it (unless your lack of response to my request is
'just not ready yet').
Much of this is dealing with perceptions. The perception that we have to
have a particular brand of tires in order to win. People, this just isn't
always so. There are countless examples of someone beating the class at
nationals on a tire brand shunned by the vast majority of the class. I know
one guy pretty well who's done it twice :-)
If someone actually has something in black and white, that 'may' be better
than what we have now, then let's see it. Some of us who've been down that
road may actually be wrong. But unless someone writes up the actual wording
of a proposed rule for us to consider, then there is no 'proof' of a better
way. Just opinion. And my opinion is it's time to move on to something else.
