There is NO number protocol for Solo II up to and including Nationals other
than first-come, first-served.
Oh, and co-driver cars have to be 40 and below, with the second driver adding
a "1" in front of that -- and that is mostly a Divisoional/National practice
usually found in the supps, not the rulebook. At local events, it usually does
not matter (YMMV).
If you like "3", ask for "3". I use "4" and always have, but the only time I
placed that high was 1974! But at some local events where they number you
1, 2, 3, 4, etc. in order of entry, I usually don't get my "4" and end up as
24 or 54 or something. Or, the most recent time I had to change, 9.
