classes". I'm all for it!
This might be a great solution for national-level competition, but at the
regional level there are far more competitive cars in the Stock classes than
Pro and Tour results (and team.net conversations) would have us believe.
Survey regional events results, especially from smaller regions, and you'll
find a host of otherwise unheard-of cars.
Forcing older cars out of Stock (and by implication, into SP or Prepared)
would also not necessarily make these older cars competitive. SP classes
carry their own set of "must-have" cars to be competitive nationally. A
cut-off for Stock eligibility just moves the problem into a different area,
and forces owners of older cars to either switch cars or commit $$ to play
in a new part of the sandbox. While Stock may not be the most
cost-effective class to run at the national level, it's hard to argue with
the low cost of running your stock daily driver in local events.
We're just going to have to get used to the fact that not all cars can be
competitive nationally. A few cars can't even be competitive regionally --
such is the cost of progress. Points for thinking out of the box, though.
