There are a few reasons that the CS 2nd gen RX-7s aren't as quick on an
autocross course as their predecessors (1st gens).  One of the big reasons is
that they are heavily set for understeer in stock form.  The 1st gens are set
up for understeer, however, they have that binding live rear axle that allows
you to compensate by throttle steering.  The rear suspension is so giving in a
2nd gen that it is actually difficult to break the rear end out in a corner.
Did you know that they have passive rear steering?  On a road course the story
is very different.  Then the added power, suspension, 50-50 weight balance,
and other various improvements overcome the weaknesses in the 1st gens.

CSP is a very different story.  Then, with the right driver, they can do very
well.  It's still pretty tough to beath those NA MR-2s though.
