I don't think that was the hole Lauri referred to. The oil filler/level check 
hole is to the right-hand side of the tunnel, and bunged with a huge rubber 
grommet +/- 10cm, which I think usually goes through the carpet, for ease of 
access. You certainly could not service any parts though that hole. I'm pretty 
sure the hole on top is only big enough for the gear lever grommet. It could be 
its been modified by a PO to provide access to the remote shifter.
