Have you ever noticed how much better your car runs after you wash it??
Well I've had a similar experience that I don't quite understand. My
battery wasn't bad, but I decided to replace it as it was getting a bit
old. Since I've installed the new battery the car, subjectively at
least, seems to run a LOT better! In addition to starting well it seems
to run better on a fast idle, very smoothly at idle once the car is
warmed up, and it seems far more responsive when driving. So my question
is how does the battery fit into the overall electrical charging system
once the car is running, and could a less than optimal battery in fact
reduce performance? The only direct impact I can think of would be spark
strength but I don't really understand how that could be.
Any ideas? And no, I didn't wash the car!
