John---Some owners bolt the four arms to the tapped holes at the back of
the block. I leave the engine's back plate in place and bolt the arms to
the (bellhousing) holes. A drawback to this way is getting the
crankshaft out, as a special arrangement must be made. (Like a spare
backplate with the bottom opened up)
The stand rated at 750 lb. should do the job, even with the tranny
attached. Total wt. is around 550 for both.

I have been looking at these. The cheaper ones look like they have
four adjustable arms that I assume bolt to the motor. Are these type
satisfactory? They are rated between 750 and 2000#, and the smallest
is less than $50.
Where exactly on the motor do you bolt on to the stand?
