Andy---I was surprised to see in their ad that TRF suggested "oil" to
lube the steering rack. It was on a page that said to...replace your
gaiters so the oil won't leak out and ruin your rack....or words to that
affect.
There is very little wear that takes place in the steering rack, because
of relatively little movement, low heat, and other reasons where oil may
be better than grease. For my money, I'd stay with grease. (Lubriplate
2, or any major brand) It doen't leak, stays where you put it, and I can
attest that my high mileage original rack has had no work done to it,
and is free from any "play".

The 1/4" bend in the steering rack has been fixed by judicious use of an
oxy-acetylene torch and pushing the end while the appropriate spot was
about cherry red. I got it to within about 1/32"(even less if
considering only the teeth area).
Now, I need to find out what to use for lubrication. Haynes and Bentley
say grease and The Roadster Factory says 90 wt oil. It seems as though
the oil would provide more thorough coverage, but be more prone to
leaking.
Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks.
