Timing Woes

Hello folks,

I am setting the timing on my 74.5 TR 6.

Do I remove the vacum line from distributor and set to 4 deg ?  OR do I set
the timing WITH the vacum advance line attached ?     Please refresh my memory
... when looking at the pully is BTDC to the right of  0 and ATDC to the left
?

And again..BTDC is Before Top Dead Centre and ATDC is After OR At Top Dead
Centre ?    You can tell the I have not done this for a many years.
