An interesting variation on a theme of keeping core plugs in place. Purists
might like to adopt the factory technique?
Coat the core plug and hole with Shellac, let both go tacky. Press plug
gently into receiving hole. Having borrowed wife's favourite broom, saw off
a six inch length. Apply to plug and give broom handle a smart tap with a
carpenter's mallet.
If it leaks - and many did, give another smack with broom handle and mallet.
For the record, when the engines were new and running under their own power
for the first time on the dynos, the coolant being pumped into each engine
always had radiator sealant in the main reservoir to stop minor leaks and
weeps. Don't worry, the factory used the stuff as well.
