Early TR6's (inj and carb) had ammeters that showed just + and - without
numerals. The changeover to voltmeters across the entire car range (saloons
and two seaters) was progressive and started in late 1968. My own car, built
Feb 1970 has a numerically graduated voltmeter - but it's not a TR6. I much
prefer the ammeter but not just with + or - on the face. But better I
suppose than an oil pressure light which comes on when its (mostly) too late
to avoid an expensive engine rebuild.
