Thanks so much for the reply about lightening connecting rods. I will
certainly heed your advice. The rods will be lightened by 30 grams as Bob
Lang suggests and balanced very carefully. Having the use of a super
accurate digital scale (used to mix automotive paints to the hundredth of a
gram) will get the rods very close. After I have done my best, the rods and
other components will go to the machine shop. My machine shop buddy will
double check the components separately then check the balance as an
assembly.

Looking at the actual numbers saved by lightening rods is a pittance versus
what can be saved from the flywheel and mechanical fan. Trimming all six
rods by 30 grams saves 5.29 ounces. Modest trimming of the flywheel saves 4
lbs or 64 ounces! Eliminating the mechanical fan saves another 93 ounces!
Last year the fan was replaced with an electric unit and a lightened
flywheel has been readied for this spring. The flywheel and crank will be
drilled for additional bolts too.

Thanks again, maybe we can slide that red line up a tad-
