Mike---It could be the column bushings that are worn, but first be sure
the clamp bolts that holds the column to the metal facia are tight.You
can observe this by simulating Plastic Man, lying on your back and
shining a light into this area under the dash. Wiggle the column. There
are two 1/4" bolts that are recessed somewhat that secure things. (It
takes an off-set 7/16" box wrench to tighten them)
