Scot,

I have to disagree with Jim on this one. High HC (if I remember right)
indicates a high percentage of un-burned hydro-carbons which should mean
running rich or at least not complete combustion. I thought the other
problem was oxides of Nitrogen (as opposed to carbon) and those were a
function of running lean.

I'd be a bit worried about the fact that #6 has low compression. This will
definitely affect the results of the test. BTW how low is it compared to
the others and/or did you check compression both "dry" and with a squirt of
oil in the cylinder??

I did some looking on the internet and found Minnesota had some interesting
comments (http://www.pca.state.mn.us/air/pubs/2-23.pdf ) Seems everyone
wants to tell you what's bad, but nobody talks about root causes.

Running lean could certainly cause your problem, adjusting the cars is not
the great mystery you think it is. Grab the factory manual and look at the
Buckeye site. Between the two it shouldn't be a problem

Steve

Thanks, but I completely drained the gas tank prior to storage. Filled
her up with premium and drove her pretty briskly for about 20 miles last
night -- I guess some more of that wouldn't hurt!

I'll try the Italian tuneup, though I know at least my carbs are clean
(and really winding my motor out makes me nervous because I have low
compression in the #6 cylinder and don't want to blow the head
gasket...)

One possibility - when I drained the tank, I sprayed the inside pretty
good with WD40. ---? Could that have raised the CO level? I wouldn't
think so, but I did dump a fair amount in there.
