I just took my '74 TR6 off blocks for the first time in two years
(kids), and am proud to say that with a little TLC she fired right up.
But then I braved the DMV inspection line and suddenly, things went
haywire. While waiting in line, a radiator hose blew. Got a nearby
mechanic to fix that easy enough, but then when I got back up there the
turn signals suddenly didn't want to work right, the horn wouldn't blow,
and the emissions thing said my CO level is too high. Agh.
Possibly pertinent information: My first drive started with lovely
weather and ended with an absolutely torrential downpour. Also, my
motor, carbs etc. are from a '69. But I've passed this emissions test
before, so I know it can be done.
I'm thinking the good soaking the car got (leaky top) might account for
the screwy electronics (they had been just fine on the drive to the
DMV), and am planning to just let them dry out before futzing with
anything. But what to do about the CO? I've done a fair amount of work
on this car, but I'm not a mechanic and the carbs, frankly, frighten me.
I do know that mine run a bit lean, would that cause the problem and if
so what can I do about it?
