Shock absorber choices

Hi folks,

I am curious if anyone has fitted generic front shocks like Monroe's or
Gabriels to their TR6? I've spent too much money on the car this spring
already and I'm trying to keep the cost down. If anyone has tried this can
you let me know what the results were and what vendor and  part numbers you
used.
