Mark,
May not be the same but after I got my Six last year, it started missing and
running bad after about 2000 miles.  After searching around I found a crack in
the distributer cap and also on the rotor button.  The local Advanced Auto
parts had the cap in stock and ordered the button for me next day.  Replaced
them and the troubles went away.  Never had any backfiring though.
