Tim---Reach behind the speedo and disconnect the knurled cable nut. Pull
it out and low enough to see the square drive. 
Jack up a rear wheel (or both, if you have some kind of limited slip)
and put the tranny in a forward gear, or go for a short drive to see if
the inside cable turns.  If it does, the problem is internal in the
speedo.
  
Usually the problem is a break in the cable. Less likely is something
wrong with the speedo driven gear, located at the side of the
transmission case.  You can check to see if this driven gear is the
cause, by connecting this end of the speedo cable to hand drill motor.
Spin the motor and observe the speedo. If the needle now moves...bingo!
