Geoff:
Until the engine is properly run in, your oil consumption is going to be way
above normal. I way quite concerned at first with my TR6. Now after about
2500 miles, she starts easily and consumption is very minimal. Hard to tell,
because she has a poor rear crank seal, but burning practically nothing.

Subject: Excessive Oil Consumption?
List,
may I ask those of you who will care to reply: How much engine oil does
your
TR6 consume and how frequently? I ask because, my TR6 has around 2000
(two
thousand) miles on its rebuilt motor, but from the minute I got it back
from
the shop that rebuilt it, it consumed a fair amount of oil. For
instance:
at the start of a 500 mile round trip to St Petersberg, I popped the
bonnet
and topped off all fluids. Upon my return, (those of might remember I
couldn't get the car started 20 miles from home, but that's for
posterity)
and checking the fluids, I was exactly one quart low on oil. External
leaks:
one small one, I think from the timing chain cover, but looks like
nothing
substantial. Plugs: a light coating of oil around the threads, but the
electrodes themselves are a lovely light nut brown and dry. Smoke:
none on
startup, and none whilst driving. Should I be concerned?
Thanks and Regards
Geoff Parker
