True - the mainshaft is turning in the gbx without any oil being circulated.
And in answer to the next question (for dolly users) no - it is not a good
idea to tow it backwards.

If I remember what I was told once, towing the TR6 any distance without
disconnecting the driveshaft is a recipe for ruining the transmission.
