Overdrive question

I've just picked up an overdrive transmission out of a Stag.  I 
understand that its very similar to the one which was used for the TR6, 
but its not an exact fit.   It has a Type A O/D but the mainshaft is 
longer.  Does anyone know what would have to be done to convert it to 
fit into a '72 TR6?  Has anyone ever attempted this?  Any feedback would 
be greatly appreciated.
