Since you are taking the carbs apart, why not attack the plug from the
inside so to speak. Once you have the float chamber off, you should be able
to see the 'barbs' which hold the plug in place. Squeezing the barbs
together should free the plug without damage (since I believe it's plastic
under the brass cap).

Small suggestion -- if you have access to a used parts source in your area,
see if they have any ZS carbs whose float bowls are sans plug. They do exist
and they will fit your TR6 carbs. Even a used Volvo dealer might help since
they used ZS carbs as well. If you replace the original float bowls with the
'solid' ones, you'll eliminate one more leak point. The plugs are a relic
from the older carbs which had adjustable jets. I guess I am assuming here
that your TR6 does not have adjustable jets...

I suppose another potential use of the plugs is to drain the float bowls
without removing the carbs, but I'm not sure how often you'd be likely to do
this. If you can find the solid bowls, I'd do it.
