Thanks for all your previous info regarding the installation of the Heritage interior in my BN7.
Anyway, the carpeted spare tire cover has about 3" of black vinyl that protrudes thru into the trunk. I understand that it is supposed to be riveted around the opening..is some contact cement there a good idea too? Once that is secured, then the back panel in the trunk appears to be held in place by 4 tabs that bend in place to hold it in place. Is this correct?John Homonek 1959 BN7
Hi John,
The extra 3" of vinyl goes through a rectangular steel hoop and then is wrapped around the hoop, glued and the excess is trimmed off so no raw edges are showing. This hoop is the placed against the perimeter of the tire opening on the trunk side and is pop riveted into plac using a total of 12 rivets, 5 along the top edge, 5 along the bottom edge and 1 each in the middle of the ends. See pictures.
The panels to the left and right of this opening are located and kept in place with the welded tabs, which should be brush painted dull black beforehand. These panels will also be held under the right and left ends of the hoop frame as shown in the pics.
Not shown in the pictures (but added later when it arrived) is the black painted steel L bracket that is screwed into place at upper centre of the opening. This is to take the punishment when the spare tire hub is pushed through the opening. Of course the tire hold down strap was also added after these pictures were taken, but you can see where the chrome loop bracket locates.
I threw in one extra picture showing where and how the armacord boot lining screws to the rear and right side edge brackets with #6 trim screws and cup washers. Of course the left side doesn't screw down but has the little cubby box lid.
