These cars get so much better care after restoration than they did when new that many concerns over "improvement" are unnecessary. For example, DON'T undercoat!!!! There are too many nooks and crannys that moisture can find its way into from behind that you'll end up trapping the moisture behind the coating and accelerate rusting. A clean, painted frame, as original, is easier to keep clean, will allow water to drain, and will last forever given the pampered life the cars typically receive.
It is a good idea to occasionally loosten the lower two screws holding the bottom edge of the rear wing, just ahead of the rear wheel, and pull the flange away from the frame.
This allows you to clean the very thin gap between the inside of the wing and the rear portion of the rocker panel. Dirt and moisture collect in this area and can lead to rust-through. Washing it out every year or two takes about an hour at most and allows you to keep the painted surfaces in good condition.
It also is a good idea to make sure no dirt is collecting in the bottom of the front wings. This can be checked by jacking up the car and feeling with your hand over the front protruding side rail. IF the drain holes are kept clear you can wash this out using a hose.
