A lot of commercial air purifiers use this. Hotels use some sort of electronic ionizer to freshen up the rooms when someone has smoked in them. Maybe you could borrow one from the local inn? I use essence of lemon and/or peppermint in my MGB when I store it for the winter. In the trunk and the engine compartment I use copious quantities of those flammable dryer softener sheets. No moth balls and no critters and the car doesn’t seem to have any odd smells. The charcoal absorbs airborne combustibles (gasoline/oil vapors and perhaps also the products of incomplete combustion such as old cigarette smoke.
