<div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">I've never tried this but as far as I can tell you can use the shifter from a non overdrive transmission to replace the shifter on an overdrive transmission. Of course this would eliminate the tube inside the shifter column so you wouldn't be able to use the switch on top of the shifter column to go in and out of overdrive.</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">The overdrive switch is a simple on/off type of switch with two wires so you can run wires to anywhere on the dash and use any kind of toggle switch that you want to make the overdrive work. But remember to keep the cutout switches operating properly. They keep the overdrive from functioning in reverse 1st and 2nd.</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">I'm guessing that your original overdrive shifter column is either broken or missing. And you have probably already found out that they are just about impossible to find. Speedometer cable broke, actually the angle speedometer cable connection to the transmission broke. Installed a new one today speedometer worked for about 50 miles and then it broke again. Anyone have any experience with this and know what might be causing it to break.?
