Slot Car Racing by Jim Keenan

So, here?s the deal. The event will be held on Saturday March 9th.

Arrive at my house (7921 Cliffview Dr. Poland, OH 44514) around 11:00 am. I
will serve lunch around 12:30. We will play/race until everyone has had
their fill. Drinking and driving is encouraged at the slot car track, so
bring your beverage of choice.

The track is 4-lanes and approximately 115 feet in length. It is hand
routed on super smooth MDF board. There is digital timing that records lap
times to the thousandth of a second. Also, there is a 20 amp, 0-20 volt
adjustable power supply. The hand controllers have adjustable dynamic
braking and sensitivity control. It is a serious piece of kit.

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to thank everyone for their advice and input on buying a TR3 .I did purchase a 1959 TR3 from John Guehl in the Pittsburgh area. I spent a little more than I anticipated but that?s just a little less for?my kids to?inherit !!There was a lot of gas odor in the car after filling the tank so I pulled the panel?off from inside the?trunk to check the tank and found that the fill hose wasn?t fully connected, (easy fix )I also found this written on the back of the panel.Anyone familiar with the names ?See pictures .

Hugh,

Great news! I love the TR3 and you have followed the advice of most
long-time WPTA members which they've also shared with me - buy the best car
you can afford and spend more time driving. It makes sense to enjoy what
we've earned in life and our children are smart enough to figure it out
after we are gone. I may have missed it but please share a picture of the
new car.

Hi Jim.  First of all, as a long time (55 years) MGB owner and wrench/restorer/racer/what have you, why would someone put a DCOE on a stock MGB?  You?ll get much better drivability from a pair of SUs.

I don?t know anyone in WPTA, or in the Greater Pgh. MG Club who can help you with that carb.  You might contact Jim Boffo (Boffo Motors), in New Brighton.  Jim might be able to help.  Also, there?s a guy up on route 8 (Don Fowler, I think).  Do NOT entrust those clowns at Foreign Traffic with anything.  Period.

I love this. 

 

I am a new MGB owner and trying to learn what I can.   I love the car but having some issues with idle and backfiring.  

 

The car is a stock 78 (recently restored), with a DCOE carburetor.   No choke.  Seems to start with a low idle so the engine rocks a good bit.  Once it warms up it is smooth. 

 

The concern is have is when I go into a turn in 2nd gear, and press the accelerator, she bogs, and bucks, and backfires.  To get through I need to apply clutch and feather the throttle. 

 

Anyway, anyone have some advice on tuning the DCOE?    As I said, I love the car.  Just not happy with how it runs in certain conditions. 

 

BTW, if this email is not appropriate, please let me know.  New to the car and the WPTA

mechanicals to make it a running car. The body, interior, and rag top 
are in better than average condition. It is a rather unique car in that 
only around 600 were made and only a handful survive. I?m curious if any

I did not know that IMSA owns HSR, which explains more modern vintage cars
participating in the races.  It notes that the DP cars that were just
recently replaced by the GTP cars are now eligible to race.

Just a brief reminder that Beer & Bull is tomorrow evening, 5:15 at
McClelland's Pub, in Cuddy.

 

IMPORTANT: We are supposed to be ordering WINGS (they're giving us a special
price on them), instead of burgers.  When 8 or 10 of us order burgers, like
we did last month, it really ties their kitchen in knots.  So, please order
wings, or something other than a burger.

In the past, we?ve had a lunch event at the Church Brew Works in March.
I?ve heard that people are less interested in that particular
destination...which I totally get.

This year, to catch up before Tune-Up Season let?s give The Foundry Table &
Tap a shot. It?s right on the North Side (or North Shore, depending on how
long you?ve lived in Pittsburgh), so it?s fairly convenient to wherever
you?re coming from.

There is street parking in front, but also plenty of large surface lots
between the stadiums.

Be there at noon Saturday March 23rd and look for some familiar faces!

The Foundry is located at 381 N Shore Dr, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.

Dear TRF Customer-
I hope you are doing well.
I visited "Team Triumph" in Warren, Ohio last month during WPTA's annual pilgrimage.? Scott has a cool shop and it was nice to be in a Triumph parts warehouse again.? It smelled a lot like TRF used to.
I was happy to receive a small sea shipment from our Taiwan manufacturer last week, so I do have some TRF brand parts back in stock.? If you see anything below you are in need of, please place an order over our new website by clicking on the picture of the part.? Vic,
I have 2 IRS differentials for a TR4A, if used on a TR6 the back cover would need changed. One is stock ratio 3.69 and used. The other is 4.10 ratio with very little use. When it was built it had new bearings installed on the carrier assembly as well as the pinion. I also have a set of good 3.69 gears that were in that rebuilt 4.10 diff.
I'd ask $75.00 for the 3.69, $100 for the 4.10 diff and $50.00 for the set of gears.
