[WPTA] DYTD

I was sitting at home on a very snowy Friday evening back around 1977 when a couple of my friends called me and said they were at the bar and the main roads are clear - come on out.  I jumped in my 73 Spitfire, with summer tires, and headed out.  The problem was that the side roads hadn't been plowed and back in those days, probably wouldn't be plowed for a long time.  I figured I'd go for it anyway.  I got within about a half a mile of the main road but by then my car was pretty much sitting on top of the snow.  A Jeep load of guys came by and offered to hand push me the rest of the way to the main road, which they did.  When we got close one of them asked me how I was going to get back to my house.  I replied that once I got to the bar then I wouldn't need to get back to the house.
I reality, I don't remember how I managed to get back but I must have figured out a way.

My 4A was my only car during the 69/70 and 70/71 winters. I had 185/15 radials which were also studded. That car went anywhere I pointed it; unless the snow was so deep I belly paned it. Stopping was not real good and I didn’t do corners on dry pavement very fast. Did a lot of starts in second gear too. Worked well but little did I know I’d be fighting the salt worm as a result of the winter driving.JVV From: EDWARD WOODS via Wpta Sent: Saturday, February 6, 2021 12:30 PMTo: Gary Fredo ; Edward Major II Cc: WPTA List Subject: Re: [WPTA] DYTD Don’t laugh about snow tires. Back in the day when I drove the TR3 though the winter months, I had VW Beetle snow tire recaps on the car. I once passes a stuck Volkswagen on the Vilsack hill with that arrangement.
