Half Day Run, September 1, 2018
By PJ Wright
Would you believe that the summer is more than two-thirds gone. Fall begins in just three weeks!! Oy veh! Be that as it may, it’s time to fire up those British cars for the Half Day Run scheduled for Saturday, the first day of September. We will be gathering by 9:30, drivers’ meeting at 9:45. Let’s meet at the parking lot behind Peter’s Place off the Kerwin Heights exit of RT I79. At the light bear right for one block, you will see the sign on your right. Peter’s Place has closed but their big sign is still up and beckoning.
If you did notice there was no run scheduled for the month of August, just a fluke as I was not able to find an open Saturday. Besides we all needed a rest after spending two wonderful days at the PVGP.
We will be off to the south of the city through Allegheny, Washington and Greene counties where we will pass the new Top Golf facility, horse farms, Nessie, two country clubs, two small airports and a covered bridge.
We will go into the heart of the fracking country where there is an abundance of drilling rigs and compressing stations. Of particular note will be the State Corrections Facility at Greene which houses such notables as Jerry Sandusky and John Traglia. We will just be making a quick overlook, not requesting a visit.
The Eat n Park is right beside the parking area for those who would like an early breakfast, the mid-run pit stop is the Sheetz on RT 21 in Waynesburg. This run ends up at Al’s Cafe in Bethel Park where we will be lunching in the main dining room so identify yourself as Triumph car guys to get seated properly.
The course will be about 100 miles in total so if we can get around all the road work and detours we should be at lunch by about 12:30 or 1:00 .
Pray for dry weather which we have not seen much of lately, join us for some late summer fun.
P. J. Wright
