What?  There are fora on the VTR website?  I get my VTR news on triumphs at autox.team.net

I prefer email lists to fora.  I can't remember to go around to all the fora all the time.  Email comes to me.  OK, so I'm a reactive person.

Well, let's see.  Looks like there have been only about 6 posts to the VTR
list in the previous 12 months.  Most of those don't seem to have much to do
with club business.

By contrast, the forum that VTR has set up to discuss "All Things VTR" has
had nearly 90 posts in the past 12 months.

I'd have to say that IMO, although VTR at Autox.Team.Net definitely served a
valuable purpose in the past, it's time to retire it.

Ok, so who is going to take up the collection to present MJB with a suitable
token of our gratitude for his long and (mostly) uncomplaining service as
Listmeister?

In case anyone is not aware, the VTR forums can be found at

There is an email notification facility, but it does not include the text of
the post; only the title.  You have to go to the web forum to read the body
of the post.

Actually I did get a check from VTR some years ago in appreciation of my 
services.
It was about the time that the 'supported in part by VTR'  line appeared 
in all the
Triumph related lists.

And yes, I am a fairly patient person and try not to whine too much.  
Lately it has been
harder to do so, the pain in my back from the shingles has made me 
grumpier than usual.
So it goes.

 I think VTR has been subsidizing the various autox VTR lists for many 
years.  But since VTR now has their own email and forum set up on their 
own servers, there probably is no need to duplicate this unless it is 
set up as a mirror site.

BTW Phil, you can set the Forum (fora?) to email you when any topic is 
replied to.  You do not have to visit the forum to read all the posts.  
All you need to do is put a check mark in the topic option to "notify 
you of replies".
So you can have the best of both the email and the forum, get instant 
emails you can react to, and the forum to search information quickly.

for many
years, but I do appreciate what support I have gotten in various forms 
from VTR.

Certainly if VTR has only put up one support check a while back, I'd say 
their use for the list is long past.

I know it came in very useful way back when I was VTR Webmaster so we 
did not have to do a mail list server on Ken Streeter's server.

VTR is having their board meeting at SLO on the 30th of September so 
maybe have Blake and the new VTR Webmaster bring the issue up to the 
board to see if they will want to support the autox VTR mail server 
lists, and see if they will do an annual support for all the other autox 
Triumph related lists?

I'd like to see the lists go a bit more real time social networks, 
somewhat like Facebook or Twitter, but without the superfluous 
chitchat.  Sort of like,

" Hey, I have this part in my hand, it looks like {this photo embeded}.  
Anyone know which way round it goes?"

And 5 minutes later or less you get a response ...

"Yeah Mate, the end you have your thumb on goes on first.  And BTW, here 
is a link to Club 4's video on the installation {click and view the video}."

I mean in a year or two more, the collective Triumph community can be 
effectively linked anywhere round the world with a Smart Phone and the 
right server.

I dunno, Glenn.  I mean, the WWW has only been around for what, 15 years?
And there are still significant numbers of Triumph enthusiasts that don't
like to use it (as shown by some of the replies to Mark's initial post).

I think it's going to take a long time to get a significant number of people
willing to be linked to the TR community by smart phone.

it.  Most folks want to keep doing it they way they've been doing it for

I believe you can categorize your friends on Facebook so you can keep
separate the chit chat of say friends and business.  So in this case each
member would chose to set up a group for just VTR.

Mark,

If it makes your job easier to kill it, go ahead and kill it.  As has been
pointed out, there's been almost no traffic on the list in the years I've
been subscribed.  Which kept me from making the effort to unsubscribe. 

In general I prefer email lists to forums as I don't always have access to a
high speed connection to browse a forum but even on slow dialup I can walk
away for 30 minutes and see what gems arrived when I'm offline.  Even if I'm
not in time to respond to a question I can still benefit from the answer.

As I'm not a gung ho VTR member I'll just have to live vicariously through
those in my local club who are dyed in the wool VTR fans.
