A bit of material direct from David Porter himself to me, then a trove of imagery of the apparent restoration of the car as photographed by Dennis Ortenburger in preparation for Legend of the Lotus Seven, as well as a few copy negative photos that were apparently provided by Lotus at the time Dennis was preparing the book (these were the additional competition photos of 34TPF prior to rebuild). Additionally, you'll see my exchange with Dennis regarding the uncertainty of whether this is THE 34TPF. Have a look and let me know what you think -- I have not listed this on the home page of the website yet as I intend to give it a final touching up after hearing from y'all -- Enjoy! We have 2 nights at The Riverside museum on June 21-22 to spend the evening with a wide variety of people that raced, built or sold racing parts from the 60s through the early 2000s and the guest list includes famous teams and independent racers from all areas and all types of road racing. I cannot possibly list all the people but you can count on there being many of the BRE team and a bunch of the guys from Electramotive, and NPTI as well as many of the privateers. We will have some panel discussions as well as some videos and a catered dinner on friday evening with a bar. Adam Carolla will be there with a few of his historic Datsun Race cars. If this part of the event was not enough we also have 3 days of vintage racing tied in at the local California Speedway with the big summer event with HSR West racing and we will have a large B-sedan/Trans-Am race as well as an all Datsun race for the rest of the cars. We don't have all the details on the track event entry costs for spectators yet but we are trying to work out a way to lower the cost at the track. We will have limited seats for this event. We will be encouraging participants to bring items for the charity auction and hopefully something so we can create a permanent display of the rich history of Nissan at Riverside Raceway we will have a bunch of Datsun Race cars to enjoy and a very enjoyable weekend of events. John Morton will be driving a 510 at the track event on Sat and Sunday. Please go to www.LegendsofRiverside.com/Tribute to purchase tickets and follow the list of invitees as we post them. By the way the charities we are helping are the Boys Republic which is Chad McQueens efforts to help at risk youth and the Paralyzed Veterans of America San Diego chapter which has a motorsports program that one of our B-sedan racers Duane Norman is the head of their efforts. Thank you all and look forward to seeing many of you at the events.Les Cannaday Les Cannaday Classic Datsun Motorsports 345 Olive Ave Vista, CA 92083 (760)940-6365 (866)288-8340 fax From sevenamerica at yahoo.com Wed May 23 08:25:38 2012 From: sevenamerica at yahoo.com (John Donohoe) Date: Wed, 23 May 2012 07:25:38 -0700 (PDT) Subject: [Vintage-race] Final Lotus Steering Wheel Badge orders Message-ID: <1337783138.37161.YahooMailNeo@web110706.mail.gq1.yahoo.com> Greetings gents, I've been advised by Mick that I should accept orders through May 31, one week from tomorrow. Has an SCCA Vintage log book and has run with CSRG and SCCA vintage.Listed in the log book as a 1969. Last raced in 1996. But has been started and driven regularly since. Engine is a mild race engine with 4 events on it. Runs well with good oil pressure.4 speed gearbox, no OD. The body is straight with a 10 foot paint job. There are 2 small rust holes in the floor on the drivers side. The rest of the car is rust free. It has wire wheels and a couple of spare wheels. There is no top or top frame. The windows are OK and roll up and down as they should. This is a good car for someone wanting to get into vintage racing. It will need fresh belts, a good clean up and a thorough pre race check. It is in Berkeley California and is available for inspection. I have a clear California title in my name. The car is on a non-op and is not currently registered for the street. $7500....I can send photos...510 459 7 2 7 0 From franks97 at frontier.com Sat May 26 22:19:18 2012 From: franks97 at frontier.com (David Franks) Date: Sat, 26 May 2012 21:19:18 -0700 Subject: [Vintage-race] Oregon Region SCCA Vintage Points Message-ID: Hello everyone, Sorry for taking so long to update the Vintage points. Message-ID: <003e01cd3cd9$4535b590$cfa120b0$@cloverleaf-auto.com> Many of you will have already seen some recent mailings from me about the PVGP/VRG Historic races at Pitt-Race (BeaveRun) That's OK. Until you send in your entry and even after I suspect you will be hearing from me. I am asking you to bring your car out to this event. This is the kick off for the PVGP celebration that will end with the Grand Prix at Schenley Park one week later. In-between there are car shows, cruising nights and a ton of things going on, but right now let's just talk about the Historic Races. This is a joint effort of the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix and VRG. SO you know it has to be a good event. PVGP is going into its 30th year of putting on Vintage & Historic Races and I guess this is VRG's 7th year or so and you all know what a great job they do. So you know the event is going to be well managed with lots of exciting things going on. We have a driver & crew reception trackside on Friday eve and for those who wish to take advantage of it there is test and tune going on all day Friday. Racing starts Saturday morning (coffee and doughnuts are there for the taking each morning) We start Saturday morning off with a quick practice - just enough so you remember where that apex is at the top of the hill and how bloody fast you can get going down the back straight. Then we start you off with a 10 lap qualifier, followed by a 15 lap sprint. Then we take a break and ask you to bring your cars out for Candy's Rides (our charity laps) many tell me these track rides are the high point of the weekend. For most of us we will wrap up with an 11 lap sprint race. For those with Spridgets they will get to run in the Donna Mae Mims Memorial Race. That wraps Saturday, well not quite - Your entry includes two people for our at the track party which is not to be mixed. It is open to all, we just ask that you make a donation for any extra crew or family that you will be bringing and on your entry form indicate the extras. Sunday starts off with a 15 lap race and then we have two special sprint races, our marque of the year which is MG this year. All MG's are invited to this MG only sprint race. Then we end the morning with a Formula & Club Ford only Race. Chris Shoemaker, owner of Royale FF will be sponsoring the trophies for this race, I understand they are really neat. One of you has to beat him. Would be embarrassing to give away a trophy to the sponsor! Now we break for lunch and again bring your cars out for Candy's Rides. Did I mention that something special will be done for two of the cars that come out - that is two each day. I think you will like it. We wrap the day after our flag ceremonies and honor to our troops with a 17 lap feature race. And besides having a great time driving on a course that is a great place for a rookie to learn or a veteran to hone his/her skills on this very technical track. You will participating in something as American as Apple Pie. Yes we raise money for two fantastic Charities, Allegheny School and Pittsburgh Autistic Society. And what is more U.S.A. American than having a summer party to raise money for those less fortunate than us. People living right here with us. If you have never been come - I will guarantee you will be hard pressed to go to a race anywhere and have as much fun or enjoy the people as much. If you have not been back for a while come. We have paved the road coming in and most of the paddock is redone. We will be opening a larger section of track in 2014 but we need to get there first. We have added more things to do for everyone. There are Flashlight Drags going on Saturday eve. You can watch or participate (slight additional fee) And the Kart track is open all weekend Come on out and have a great time, great food, great party, great racing and all for a cause that is a bit hard to fault.
