On May 31^st , his Bamboo Cream 1962 Catalina Racecar was stolen, along with the enclosed trailer that it was stored in. The theft took place in the parking lot of Rickbs Racecraft in Yorkville, Illinois. The Catalina can be identified by the cream-colored paint, red Ventura interior and bSuper Chiefb graphics on the rear quarter panels. The 535 cubic-inch Pontiac engine is rather unique and is based on an IA-2 Pontiac block, Edelbrock heads and a Wenzler intake manifold. Photos of it are provided for identification purposes. The Catalina is registered and street-legal, with Illinois antique car plates. The license number is 62INJN (Illinois Antique) and the VIN is 962W2877. The trailer is a white 28-foot Haulmark with bARC Environmental Engineeringb logos on the sides. Its license number is 65591TD (Illinois) and its VIN is 16HGB28217H156139. A trailer fitting this description was spotted headed east on Route I-94 headed east about 1:00 pm Sunday May 30^th between Kalamazoo and Marshall. U.S. and Canadian customs and border patrol authorities have been notified. Any leads or other information would be greatly appreciated. Please call Rich Killen at (708) 460-7373. Let's see if I can give you reasons why it should be: 1) If you sign up for the full three days you get 6 test & tune sessions on Friday plus an opportunity to do hot laps with workers and we finish the day off with a free reception track side 2) Saturday starts with a practice, followed by a qualifier, followed by a sprint race, followed by a sprint race and if you have a FV another sprint race and then we end the day with a party at the track (this one you have to pay for) 3) Sunday you start off with a qualifier and end with a sprint race and if you are a FF or CF conforming to VRG rules you get an extra sprint race 4) Did I mention the afternoon charity rides? Many of my drivers tell me this is the best part of the weekend. Both on Saturday and Sunday we have people lined up who pay us good hard cash for the privilege of riding around with you! I have people who have been coming every year we have been doing this just to ride around with you! 5) Great trophies! 6) A fantastic track and venue, really harkens back to when these cars actually ran at events. This track works no matter what you drive or where your skill level is 7) You are making history. Some of you have been coming here since I started this and helped to grow this into a real event. You should feel proud and wouldn't you feel even prouder when you can tell your buddies that "I have an in at BeaveRun, so if you want to come to a fantastic event let me know and I can help you get in. otherwise you will probably wind up on a waiting list!" 8) And probably the most important reason of all - you make your checks out directly to the PVGP. We always tell you that we raise money for two great charities. And what is more American than having a summer party to help people who desperately need our help. Follow this link to see who you have been helping, http://www.cloverleaf-auto.com/Vintage%20racing/PVGP%20BeaveRun/why_do_we_re ally_do_this.html click the link there and do something while it downloads (fill in your entry) it is worth the wait and I want to thank each and every one of you on behalf of Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix and myself for making it possible for us to help these people. I need you to make this event work and when you fill in your entry form and come to my event I will promise you the best corner workers, safety personnel, tech staff, registration etc of any event you can find anywhere. If we make a mistake we will fix it! All of us do this as volunteers so you can have the best vintage race experience you can and we in turn can give to our charities the most we can. So please, if you have been out with us before please come out again and if you have never been please come out and see why this event is one of the best kept secrets on the vintage race calendar. I want to make this event, with your help, the most important vintage event on your yearly calendar. Yes there may be some bigger events with bigger tracks, the Zippo comes to mind, and many events raise money for different charities but our charities, The Pittsburgh Autistic Society and the Allegheny School, work with and help people who many of the world just pass by. The PVGP is entering its 28th consecutive year and that makes us one of the grand daddy events going on. We sprawl over two weekend of racing with car shows, cruising nights, parties and dinners throughout the week. Become part of this, not for me but for them and for yourself. I can tell you after 20 years of being involved with the PVGP in everything from a mechanic, to driver, to event chair to creating (with a lot of help) a complete venue that if they write nothing else on my tombstone besides "he gave to the PVGP" I will be content. Not your normal appeal to come to an event, but not a normal event. Thank You and I hope to see you there Ralph Steinberg PVGP Director of Competition BeaveRun From ralph at cloverleaf-auto.com Sat Jun 19 06:37:18 2010 From: ralph at cloverleaf-auto.com (Ralph Steinberg) Date: Sat, 19 Jun 2010 08:37:18 -0400 Subject: [Vintage-race] VRG/PVGP Historic Races at BeaveRun Message-ID: <002501cb0fac$2b741310$825c3930$@com> OK everyone! You now have 28 days left, I will take your entry at the door if I must, to get your entry in for the best vintage racing around. We have something for everyone: For the vintage racer we have a full day of test & tune on Friday ( around 1.5 hours of track time) On Saturday you get a quick morning practice to shake off the dust and get ready for the day followed by a qualifying race and then 2 sprint races for an hour of track time. And if you are one of our FV drivers add another 11 lap sprint race to your ticket. On Sunday you start right in with a 15 lap qualifier and finish off with an 18 lap feature race and on Sunday those of you with FF & CF cars meeting VRG rules will get an additional 11 lap go for broke sprint race. We also will have a FREE reception trackside on Friday eve and we have a great party on Saturday For the young and young at heart the Kart track will be open Friday, Saturday & Sunday Did you know almost anyone in most any car can try their hand at Solo racing? Basically bring a street safe car and a helmet (don't forget your wallet) and until the field is full you can sign on and race solo. Want to get into car control, give it a try. And who knows, after a few laps around the solo track your significant other will be looking for a seat in the race car! And then there is the crhme de le crhme our charity rides where you the driver get to put the biggest smile on someone's face and meet a new friend! So we have everyone covered, you, your significant other, your kid, your brother-in-law, even your in-laws (did I mention you can buy rides in the pace cars) All wrapped up in a vintage race weekend with the look and the feel of a race right out of the heyday of club racing. You are likely to see just about anything in our paddock and on our track from a Formula Vee (sorry guys but you look like some big water bug flying down the track) To a big Honking Allard Coupe! A S200o to a Frogeye Sprite (hmm - Frogs and water bugs - same groups - could be interesting) Camaro to an Aston Martin Nimrod, IT Pinto chasing a BMW, chasing a Porsche. We have had an Alligator roaring around the track doing battle with Jaguars being chased by MG's while being buzzed by Spitfires, while Mustangs are still deciding the pony wars and least we forget, turning inside of everyone come our rice burners. we have cars with Swedish racing history ( I mean actually raced there - have you ever tasted what they palm off as after dinner drinks? Make a great race Fuel!) And one more thing, you are doing this for a good cause (besides having more fun than you can handle) You are helping others who need your help, people and children right here, right now. As we, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, are a full blown charity your check is a charitable deduction. Now where else do you go that your entry fee could be declared as a tax deduction? So again I ask you, why don't I have your entry? (for those that have already answered thank you and by Sunday night (6-20-2010) I should have posted at www.cloverleaf-auto.com in the vintage racing section the groups as entered now and maybe some other late breaking news. We of the VRG/PVGP realize that and appreciate the fact that you spend the money that you do in coming to our events. To show our appreciation we are changing the cutoff date for our normal (flat entry rate) rate. If you have your entry postmarked by July 12th, 2010 your entry fee will be $325.00 for a VRG member and $375.00 for non members. After the 12th you will pay $400, member or non-member. And while we will accept entries right there at the track it is much harder on us and our staff to do this and you may not get into the group you were hoping to. We and our charities appreciate your commitment to this event and hope to see you all there. Thank You Kieth Lawrence VRG Event Chair Ralph Steinberg Director of Competition PVGP BeaveRun
