i need to ship 4 tires (from el segundo to fresno,ca), but estimating UPS type shipping is too expensive as a bundled pair due to the overall size (not wt),but shipping each tire individually is only $20. Any other suggestions from someone who's done it before?

Subject: [Vintage-race] MGA Clutch recommendations

I have been having considerable difficulty with the clutch(s) in my MGA 
with a lightly modified 1622 engine.  Lots of slipping issues.  Without 
going into the considerable history of what I have done in attempts to 
remedy it, what are you all using in your MGAs?  The choices I know of 
are 1) stock or heavy duty standard MGA clutch & PP; 2) Twin Cam 
pressure plate; 3) MGB pressure plate with some choice of MGA disc; 4) 
uprated MGA pressure plate, as in more clamping force; 5) choices of 
clutch disk material.  I have now tried the stock-type clutch faces, 
kevlar and ceramic.

I have had oiling problems (from the engine rear scroll seal) but my 
engine shop is convinced that the amount of oil that I have shown him 
would not be enough to make a conventional clutch slip.

So, what combinations have you all found work for you?  I recognize that 
I may have some other issue somewhere but I hope this advice might help 
me to eliminate the materials as a variable.

John Morton was involved in a 3 car incident in Turn 1 that sent him and his Scarab
barrel rolling and landing upside down.... he went to the hospital for observation...
As far as I know he's OK.    The FJ race had 6 tows when it was over ... two cars in the tires in T4

Indeed there was.

Worst was the Collier Museum's Scarab.  Did an end-over-end I'm told, after
clipping the rear corner of a spinning car.  It was carted away on 2
flatbeds.  Driver, John Morton was taken to the hospital for observation.  I
heard from someone who visited him shortly afterward that he was ok.

I'm sure there will be first-hand accounts out soon.

All Vintage Racers,

You're invited to the 3rd annual VRG New Jersey Historic Races on September 24
& 25.

As in 2008, this event takes place on the Lightning Circuit at New Jersey
Motorsports Park in Millville, NJ (about an hour south of Philadelphia, PA).
This is the only vintage race of the year on Lightning!  It's a fast, flowing
circuit with some interesting elevation change -- great for small-bore and
big-bore cars.  VRG accepts driver credentials (including medicals) from any
VMC-member club.

Once again, our weekend coincides with the Millville Air Show.  This year, it
is primarily a static (ground) display, although there will be some
fly-over's.  The organizers expect over 50 planes, most of which will be
vintage WWII warbirds.  Local collector Tom Duffy has recently added a P-51
Mustang to his collection, along with his existing Spitfire, P-47 Thunderbolt,
and other great historic planes.  As in past years, our Friday night barbecue
will be held at the Air Museum -- chock full of remarkable WWII memorabilia.

This year, this will be a 2-day event, run on Friday & Saturday.  You will
still get a ton of track time!  We expect to have just 4 race groups, or
perhaps 5 at the most, allowing each group to have three lengthy sessions each
day.  In addition to the usual practice sessions, each group will get three
race sessions during the weekend.  And the 2-day format reduces your travel
expense and time away from home.

Both are non-smoking.  One is a king bed and I believe the other has 2
