Message-ID: <000801c9bd0b$bf190e30$6401a8c0@normoffice> In the past I heard of some people using Saenz rods as an alternative to Carillos. I've been trying to reach someone at Saenz/Top Enterprises of Miami for days. All I get is voice mail. Despite leaving messages, I haven't yet received a call back. Does anyone know if these guys are still in business? Are their rods any good? Your help will be appreciated. Norm Sippel From rickyocum at earthlink.net Thu Apr 16 22:10:20 2009 From: rickyocum at earthlink.net (Rick Yocum) Date: Fri, 17 Apr 2009 00:10:20 -0400 Subject: [Vintage-race] Last Chevron Message-ID: <0D4FFFB93E124E05AAC1591FCA467902@Rick> I just visied a friend's shop where I saw he was reassembling the last factory Chevron (a B-51, as I recall...built in 1980). I've seen the tub in his shop for years and saw body parts in his Dad's barn over the years. He's finally decided to put them all together and is thinking of selling the car. As I remember the history, it was ordered by Newman-Freeman racing, was delivered and tested, then shipped back to the factory for body mods. Some freight company, to which Chevron owed money, seized the car and this started an adventure that ended with the car in Ohio. I think a Mansfield driver eventually campaigned it, the last race being in St.Petersburg in 1985 (a dnf). The present owner is a driver/mechanic/car-builder who has done work for me for years. And he knows what he has. The car is pictured in the book about Chevron. If I had the money I'd probably buy it, although, at my age, I would have absolutely no business behind the wheel...with a 5-liter engine behind me. In front of me, as in Trans-Am...fine. Behind me, as in Can-Am, I'm over my head (and, possibly, on it). But if there's any interest out there, drop me a line and I'll pass the contact info on to the owner. Contact the original senders if you see or hear anything. Mark Palmer ******************************************* My colleague Daryl Taylor and I have had a pair of Formula Atlantic cars stolen from our premises last week. Both cars incidentally originated from America - Daryl's March is the ex Howdy Homes car and my Father's Lola is ex Tim Coconis. I wonder if you would help us by circulating the information to anyone they know as we would not want somebody buying stolen cars. And if anyone if offered these cars info back to us would be great. We are offering a considerable reward to get these back as they are both newly refurbished and ready to go for the season. Many thanks - Bruce Fullerton STOLEN Terry Fullerton's Lola T460 Chassis no. Message-ID: <33076996.1240375963154.JavaMail.root@elwamui-muscovy.atl.sa.earthlink.net> sigh, i'm still learning about my new race motor: how and how long does one expect to have to warm up a dry sumped engine (1.6ltr,lotus TC,dry sumped, 2gal in the oil tank, full race cams LT 1,16) in order to be up to "operating temp". I ask because after my last race (avg 70deg F ambient), i seem to have chewed up a bearing somewhere (tear down to be done). I warmed it up in the paddock for about 10min, noted that the oil temp was about 60-70deg C-usual about 90deg. took it easy on the track for a lap, then kept it 2k below redline for a few laps. The oil cooler air intake was blocked off. radiator intake unchanged. nota bene: i get the vintage list via the digest form so individual replies will hit the spam blocker which i will manually overide. thanks for any suggestions christopher From twobees at sprynet.com Wed Apr 29 14:19:48 2009 From: twobees at sprynet.com (Norm 2Bs) Date: Wed, 29 Apr 2009 16:19:48 -0400 Subject: [Vintage-race] Historic Grand Prix at Lime Rock Message-ID: <006401c9c907$d8b38ed0$6401a8c0@normoffice> Greetings from down South. I just received an email saying that the Historic Grand Prix will be part of the Memorial Day show at Lime Rock. If you haven't seen these historic F1 cars race, you should take advantage of this opportunity and get up there that weekend. It's really quite the show. To learn more about HGP, go to: http://www.historicgrandprix.com/ For a schedule of the weekend practices & races, go to: http://www.grand-am.com/assets/09LimeRockprelimsched4.pdf See you there! Norm Sippel Here is the press release: Formula One Cars at Lime Rock Park on Memorial Day Weekend Eau Rouge, Becketts, Casino, Parabolica. Formula One cars will add two new famous corners to their Curriculum Vita. Big Bend and The Downhill. For the first time, a breathtaking selection of Formula One Machinery from one of the great eras of the Series will be racing at Lime Rock Park on Memorial Day Weekend. Authentic cars from the World Championship will compete in two races organized by Historic Grand Prix, a group dedicated to the preservation and use of these great machines. Cars that were driven to success by some of the greatest racers in the world will undoubtedly come close to breaking the Lime Rock Park track record in an unmatched demonstration of technical sophistication, power and handling. The great names of the sport, Andretti, Senna, Gurney, Mansell, Moss, Ascari, Prost, and Schumacher all developed and affirmed their talent racing in Formula One. And, they drove cars which are legendarily faster than anything else around a given track. Marques like Maclaren, Ferrari, Wolf, Penske, Cooper, and Lotus established their brands and competitive reputation racing at tracks like Monza, Silverstone, Spa and Monaco. Manufacturers like Toyota, Ford, Renault, Mercedes Benz, and BMW have spent hundreds of millions of dollars to show that they can match technical brilliance with the specialists who traditionally have concentrated on winning the Formula One World Championship. With around 500 horse power available in cars weighing not much more that a thousand pounds these cars promise to provide a really tremendous spectacle on the 1.5-mile Lime Rock Park. And, they will be on view in a special Midway Paddock area. For a fascinating moment, Lime Rock Park on Memorial Day Weekend will echo to the resounding sounds and spectacular sights of real Formula One cars from the glory days of the World Championship...when Villeneuve, Hunt, Peterson, and Andretti hurtled towards their destiny all over the globe.... not a spectacle to be missed! The Road Racing Classic on Memorial Day Weekend will also feature the Koni Challenge and F2000. Event tickets and Premier Fan Hospitality tickets are on sale now. All tickets include free access to the paddock area and free parking. Discounted advance tickets are available until Friday, 15 May. Following that date, higher gate pricing will apply.
