Many of you know Al from his obsession and love of all things Alfa Romeo.? Al most recently raced his very quick, long-time Gulietta Spyder in vintage venues, but his racing history goes back for many years with the SCCA, where I believe he held several championships, as well as various track class records.? For a time, Al also dabbled with a racing shoe business he founded, known as Hot Shoes (I still use mine and will remember him as I do).?? Apparently, Al lost a recent battle with pancreatic cancer.? A memorial service is planned to be held at his home in Boulder Creek, CA on Februrary 16, but further information was not immediately available.? If I learn anything further, I will post it.? Our thoughts go out to Al's family.? Please pass this on. Better order now before they're gone. "Here's your chance to get a copy of a book long out of print. Original copies have gone for hundreds of dollars on Ebay. John Sprinzel has reprinted "Spritely Years" after buying the rights and the acetates back from Haynes. This is a "must have" for anyone interested in Sprites, Healeys, Triumph, Ford, rallying, and a host of other cars John drove during his career. It's an honest, informative, funny look at John's life as a driver, tuner, manufacturer, etc. Only 500 copies were produced for the 50th Sprite year anniversary, so that they will still be fairly rare. He is selling them autographed at $65 including postage in the US ($71.00 overseas) . His address is P.O. Box 97 Kaunakakai HI 96748 John's e-mail address for this is johnsebring65 at gmail.com . He does have Paypal, (though he says, "I am not yet too sure how it all works"), otherwise US check or money order will do the trick. He'll have a few copies at the Sprite deal in May, and Tom Coulthard (co-author) might be there to sign them as well." Wm. Severin Thompson ~iii Wm. Message-ID: <191094.16738.qm@web32703.mail.mud.yahoo.com> Interesting press release from Lotus responding to the SCCA's refusal to classify the 1963 Super Seven 1500 and 1500 Cosworth in a Production Car class. This is a piece of the 'Legend of the Lotus Seven' research material. Unfortunately there is not a specific date on the document. If anyone has first hand experience with this issue (did you race, or plan to race a Super Seven 1500?) I'll be happy to list your stories/comments on this page. Go to SimpleSevens.org and click the link on the home page :-) Enjoy! For any of you who race formula Ford, this should be a very good event as well. I'm not sure how many entries there are presently for FF, but I believe it's 20-22 cars. We also have a series that runs in conjunction with the HSR-West "Pacific Formula Ford" Challenge. It is called "Formula Ford: the SERIES". If you race a FF and want to re-experience the thrill of a FULL GRID of formula Fords, then Willow is where you should be. Membership in "the SERIES" is not required to compete. Hope to see a lot of new faces there next weekend.
