Message-ID: <715031.19652.qm@web32706.mail.mud.yahoo.com> A few updates to keep you occupied for a few moments this Holiday season... Ray Cass provides pics and info on his Long Lost Seven America, but he also sent along a batch of 'period photos' of Sevens he shot in competition back in their heyday, primarily on Midwest courses. We've already connected one of the photos with the car's current owner! Take a close look and see if you can't spot a photo of your own car! If you do, let us know and we'll get you a print, no charge! Next up is S1 #777 Series 1 road car restored to beautiful S2 spec... but why? Then in the For Sale department, we hav an interesting car - not a Seven but a contemporary competitor: a Coldwell Mink. I know, not a Lotus Seven, but it's an interesting story with good photos! Then there's also Toby Griffiths' recently acquired SB1269, originally with gullwing doors!!! And lastly, don't forget -- voting for your favorite 50th Anniversary photo ends this month! Links to all the above are shown on the home page: http://www.simplesevens.org. I'm also still working on my 50th Anniversary story, but now, some of you have heard that I did manage to acquire the 38 pound box of Legend of the Lotus Seven research material. This of course has side tracked me a bit as I sort and review it... I do plan to get my 50th story up first, then will start presenting the Legend material. So, you can see I've done a bit, and still have plenty to go -- Enjoy! And Best Wishes for a safe aand happy Holiday Season for all :-) Cheers, John Donohoe SimpleSevens.org ____________________________________________________________________________________ Looking for last minute shopping deals? It was a reasonably successful car with all of the go fast goodies of the period. As presently configured there is no way this car would be eligible for vintage racing, and there are not enough SCCA events within a reasonable proximity of Denver that I could race SCCA as well as vintage, which is my real preference. The 1,275 cc engine was built by Dave Taber Jr., and was dyno'ed at about 130 - 135 h.p. It has a Richmond Instruments gearbox, and all of the other "right stuff" from the late 90's. What makes it ineligible for vintage is the suspension with coil-overs on all four corners and the fiberglass front body clip and rear deck lid and flared fenders which are attached with Dzus fasteners. Does someone out there have a decent Spridget body shell or roller that could be mated with this car to make a good vintage racecar? Is anyone with a spridget hangar queen interested in a sort of joint venture in making one good vintage racecar out of two semi useless ones? I have too much love and respect for old racecars to simply part it out and give the remains a decent burial. There is a picture of the car on http://www.mgcars.org.uk/pics/sprite44.jpg. Additional pictures and details are available by contacting me off list. Many venues are offering special run groups, fees, and track time for Spridget racers (and, yes, Midgets are eligible). I've got two racecars for sale. One is the wife's yellow #29 car that some of you may have seen at various events. It is a mid-pack car and is ready to race. It has a relatively mild motor and a stock transmission. We're asking $8800 for that one. The other is a grey/green #75 that was formerly owned and raced by Gregg Rodgers of Pinnacle Autosports. It is a front-runner with all the goodies. You might have seen it finishing in the top three or better at national venues across the country. We're asking $13,500 for that one. Never fear, I'm keeping The Gnat, my world famous '74 Midget racer, and will be racing it this year. Contact me off list if you are sincerely interested. Thanks! I am selling off the last of some VHS copies of a couple of 16MM films I bought of racing at Malboro and Cumberland.. I am selling them for $15.00 plus shipping. Check out ebay listing: Item number: 180198832310 I bought the following 16MM videos that were listed on eBay and had them copied onto VHS tape. I also added some bonus footage taken at Austin Raceway Park that I received from the family of the original owner of my TR4A vintage racecar. I have a dozen copies left to sell. I will ship them to USA destinations using Priority Mail with a shipping cost of $5.00 each. Here is the original listing for the films that are copied onto this tape: Very interesting and collectible vintage 1960s black and white 16mm film documenting a Sports Car Club of America racing event. Approximately 300 feet of Kodak film or about 10-11 minutes worth of action on a steel 7 inch reel. I have two of these up for auction and one of the film canisters has "Race At Cumberland" written on it. I believe this may very well be the Cumberland, Maryland track since the SCCA race official has "SCCA Official Wash D.C. Region" on the back of his shirt. I did not go through the entire film, but all of the footage I looked at was racing action. As can be seen in my images, you can easily identify some Austin Healey Sprite and MG cars. This is an original and possibly rare film and not a copy. The condition is excellent. No physical defects that I can determine. Please excuse the quality of these photographs. I don't have a 16mm film projector, so I took these photos using a magnifying glass and some back-lighting. The strange visual effects in these images are due to the use of the magnifying glass and are not inherent in the film. There is no green tint to the film either. This might be a nice film to show at one of your club events, for race photograph collectors, or for transfer to video tape for re-sale. Please check out my other film auction Bob Kramer rkramer3 at austin.rr.com
