Inspection required physically looking at the brake shoes which of course required taking off the drum. We would remove the grease cap with a channel lock pliers – just grab it and wiggle or lever it down and it would come right off. Perhaps because they had to come off twice a year they never got very stuck, but never had a problem removing them.
